Former coworker of mine just posted this on fb

Just playing devils advocate here. If the middle chain stays tight and one of the other ones becomes loose, that roll would still slap around.
That said, I would've used 3 myself. But 2 is plenty in the eyes of the law.
For those that have never hauled these. I will use a 2" strap thru the eye wrapped around the roll and hooked back to the strap. These large rolls of belting are notorious for telescoping. That single 2" strap will prevent that.Razororange, MJ1657, DDlighttruck and 7 others Thank this. -
GPS is getting more confusing all the time.Razororange, sawmill, MJ1657 and 3 others Thank this.

Ummmm over 10k and on wheels you must have 4 points of securement anyhow.
Now I am assuming 5/16" chain. Since they are direct tiedowns you get 2350 will each x 4 gives you 9400 pounds of securement. Not enough for that machine and the one on the boom does not count for aggregate wll. The strap over the body gives you enough wll though.
You know all this though but others reading this may not. Your post comes across as thinking you are superior because you used two straps along with the chain. In reality you had to use those to be legal, it's nothing special. If you were going to put extra there would be another strap or chain.Chewy352, Razororange, skootertrashr6 and 3 others Thank this. -
I'm not superior to anyone...Just a guy trying to move stuff around without it falling off.
These things ride great, we both know that...I would take the straps off and still feel comfortable driving coast to coast.
Some things are worth going over the required amount of securement and some aren't is all I was getting at.
If someone wants to put 8 chains on a 20k coil to feel safe then by all means do it, hell I'll even help them.
We all need to do what makes us feel comfortable and meets the requirements of the law at a minimum.Razororange, SAR and Oxbow Thank this. -
Might I suggest trying to keep those straps a little closer to where the support is on the crates? If anything happens those crates will just collapse and your straps become useless.
Not meaning to be overly negative here, just trying to give a few pointers. -
I appreciate it. However the trailer is from the 80's and most of the winches are welded in place. He has a few removable ones but they don't just slide like the newer ones do.SAR, MJ1657, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this.

I see that but I see what looks like two sets of pallets in the back that have two and a half inch ratchet straps that could always be used.
I used to pull a trailer like that and I hated it.Lepton1, DDlighttruck and macavoy Thank this. -
They're trying out new ways to crate the loose parts. Never seen doors used for shipping before.
Thought about it while closing up the back flap. Probably don't need the chain on there, but it looks better. Back to Minnesota.1951 ford, Lepton1, PeteyFixAll and 2 others Thank this.
