No this was the second trip I've done with it. Same shipper even, 30 mins from our yard. Back in MI with the Pete and B-train right now.

Doing short haul for a local store chain. Basically I live unload one trailer in the am and deadhead back to the dc. Drop and hook to a loaded trailer and live unload a second store. Then dh back to dc. Drop and hook to my first trailer for the next day and take it to our yard in town.

So far I'm very happy. It's a big company I work for but each account is run very locally so it's got the small company feel with big company benifits. I actually get paid for everything I do and get hub miles, paid vacation, and paid holidays. Best of all I'm home almost every night and every weekend with the family.

Worst part is I have to drive during the very worst time for me. I never was very good between 3 am and sunrise. I was going through about 2 to 3 monsters a morning till everyone on here started with the horror stories. The wife started making me coffee which I've always hated but she puts cocoa mix, pepermint, and cream in it. Now I dare to say I actually like it so long as it very hot. So now I'm just drinking a pot of coffee each morning.

I do the same with my coffee for the most part. Bunch of cream, sugar, and some chocolate flavor. Can't drink it black. Hate the taste.

@Chewy352 : Speaking of changes, my company has given me a promotion. They are creating a new position in the Driver Services department. Since I started doing orientation in November and road tests in February, they've not said anything directly, but they've been hinting at wanting me in the office.

Now it's official. They are still working on my duties and job description, and I'll still be driving every second week for the next few months, but I took the opportunity given to me. As much as I absolutely love this job, and love driving the truck even more, I have to look at the future. My wife and I have been married almost a year now, been together over 8, I just turned 30 and we want to start a family.

As much as I'd like to continue driving the truck for the rest of my life, I know my body is going to start having problems in the next 5-7 years. I've always been overweight and had knee problems, and it's getting harder and harder to get on and off the trailer. Moving into a position where I get to work less during the day (8-9 hour days rather than 12-14 hour days), and have a greater influence on the future of the company (they trust me so much, I'm going to be making a large part of the decision on hiring new drivers), I cannot pass on this opportunity.

This is the life I've been working towards for years now. Working in an industry I love, working for a company that not only recognizes my skills and dedication, but rewards me for working my butt off for the last two years and giving me new and exciting possibilities for my future, I can't help but be excited.

But the thought of giving up my truck, and giving up "regular" driving in the long run (I've made arrangements to still take trips out when it isn't busy) is really hard. I've been driving the same truck for the last year and put a lot of effort into keeping her clean and running well. I don't want to give her up, but I'm going to have to. That's going to be the hardest part about this. She has seen me through so many personal growth experiences that have taught me so much about driving a truck... and the thought of some of our other drivers taking her, and not driving her as smoothly and carefully as I do... that's rough.

But I'm going to try before this change fully takes place, to give her one good run. I'm going to see if I can get a trip out to the North East US, then back up through Ontario. Get this itch to really "run" out of my system before the change happens. And I'm hoping to get as many pictures as I can.

Thats awesome brother. I know you've been trying to find something like this for a long while now.

Glad its working out for you. Young children need their daddy home more than once or twice a month.

    Congrats!
