Do you have either strap corner protectors or chain steel corner protectors?
If it was me I'da had two chains on an X on the stacks on the step. Then chains w/protectors on the top piece, if running out of chains then straps w/protectors on the rest of it. Looks like you were more than legal for straps, but that way it's piece of mind it's not coming at me.
Legal and life preservation are two different things

I do have corner / edge protectors. I will be Xing the next time I haul. I used all but one of my straps. Then used it after the whoa...Crusader66, cke, Razororange and 1 other person Thank this.

I delivered a few of those reels last week, just rolled them off the trailer.

Not to start an argument but straps are perfectly fine on steel, assuming they are used correctly. Many shippers don't want a chain anywhere near their product (welded tube for instance, especially galvanized or stainless). For me (as a result of company training) you take the FMCSR minimum, double it, then add 2-3.
Full coverage at the very least on aggregate working load limit. That way, if some do "give way" there are plenty of others there to back them up. But further, this also relies on the driver actually doing load checks every 150 miles and making sure they stay tight.
Emergency stops with steel, no matter how much securement you put on there, can go south very quickly. -
Just got rid of this fun in Gravenhurst, ON.....this okie is almost cold.Crusader66, tony97905, SAR and 7 others Thank this. -

Hadn't seen that before. Usually they're 3x3, had to use two straps on each. It's been so long since I've done them can't remember if I did use two on each skid usually.Crusader66, Zeviander, MACK E-6 and 7 others Thank this. -
That looks familiar. Look on the bright side, you didn't have to cover each coil individually with plastic and then tarp it when you got outside.snowman_w900, 4mer trucker, cke and 5 others Thank this.

Ya thats definitely the nice thing about a slider. No tripping over chains pulling your tarp over lol.
