The 14% grades I this route were relatively short at only a few hundred feet, but they were on tight corners and when you meet up with a swift driver who is hugging the center line, needless to say it got a little tense

Does this look anything like the way you went? Apparently they call it "the Diamondback".

    Logan76 and Gunner75 Thank this.

That is 226a, it's not recommended for trucks. But it's in the same area

I picked up in a rock quarry last week. Going in empty it was all I could do to climb it with the interlock engaged. Mostly a traction issue. On the way out at 83,680 lbs going down locked in, in 4th gear the jake held the truck no problem. The steep part of the road is probly 1/2 mile long. One of our other guys wouldn't even try going up last week. He rode up in a pickup truck and said no way.

I would be more afraid of going back UP it loaded than coming back down loaded.

Oxbow, Lepton1 and Logan76 Thank this.

Well he's got a french canadian trailer and its a tridem so he's half way there. If he wants to fit in with the crazy french stick haulers he'll have to realize that the stakes are just a suggestion for load height ;) and put a few more layers on :)

Logan76, Lepton1 and Cat sdp Thank this.

Won't catch me hauling logs: I see what those logging trucks go thru, splinters stuck between rim n tire, stumps into fuel tanks: too rough for my Bessie.

OLDSKOOLERnWV, Oxbow, andhe78 and 7 others Thank this.
