Most of the times I don't pad against the edges of our trailers as they aren't sharp edges. But that rub rail inside was damaged with a thick burr

If I would pull over the back side of the rail like in Gunners picture I screenshotted I would probably but something there. If I were pulling over the outside of the rail I probably wouldn’t. The angle of that strap is pretty steep, pretty close to 90 degrees so it would rub pretty good.

    Oxbow and SAR Thank this.

There’s a difference between running over the edge of a rounded trailer rail and pulling at a steep angle over the back side of a run rail.

    Oxbow and SAR Thank this.

Well this is certainly a new development in my flatbed career, a chain link snapped off after i picked up a preloaded trailer. 20180408_114550.jpg

I picked up a trailer that was loaded by another driver in Tulsa with my former boss back in Feb, it was steel beams of some kind. I checked the straps before even hooking to the trailer, they were a little loose, so I grabbed the winch bar. Started tightening straps, about the 6th one back snapped as soon as I put more pressure on it. I looked at my idiot former boss and said "this is why the trailers need new straps".

    stwik Thanks this.

Ya it happens sometimes. Good reason not to be hanging off the side of the trailer like a monkey tightening chains. ;)

*guy next to me throwing straps over his tarps* Aren’t you worried about your tarp blowing around without any straps over it?

*me* Nah man, I think mine are tight enough to stay put.

Neither do I. Straps over tarps here is virtually a fireable offense.

Gunner75, ChaoSS, cke and 4 others Thank this.
