I get it, kind of embarrassed that I asked now but I can picture it in my little pea brain now!

Yea snowman, that was the disconnect for me. It makes complete sense with a wide load on a flat, but if the wide portion is on the deck of an RGN then the radius to the back of the sleeper/cab when turning is not an issue unless jackknifing severly.

SAR, sawmill, cke and 4 others Thank this.

How much weight do you have on your steer with your fifth wheel right there?

SAR, cke, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this.

To me I carry my neck as far forward as possible to shorten up my turning radius.

Yeah, getting around in some of these truckstops, jobsites and places is tight enough as it is. I like as short a radius as possible

For the record I didn’t take this picture, post this picture, heck I never even drove that truck. But that load is why we move all of our fifth wheel sliders to the rear of the frame on our wing trucks. The top left corner of that load is about flush with the front of the trailer. Another load we pull on a stretch flat has to be loaded 2’-5’ back from the front of the trailer for turning clearance. Both are 20’ wide with 4’ off the drivers side.

    cke and Oxbow Thank this.

Last time I scaled with a load and the fifth wheel all the way back. 11k pound crate on a double drop stretch. Loaded and empty. I also put on 180 gallons in between these scale tickets. With a set back front end and a headache rack full of gear I carry enough on the front end all the time.
Third ones about a quarter tank of fuel and the fifth wheel moved forward one foot. Ideally o would have slid another foot forward but I had permits for a 39’ inner bridge when I should have asked for a 38’ inner bridge. Live and learn.

  9. My comment was only to say we can take pictures and it's not you doing it.
The company can't stop ppl from taking pictures in public. Unless they tarp the load.

    Enjoy working for them.

cke, PoleCrusher, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this.

Yep. Not an issue. I was just asked to not post pictures of certain “sensitive” freight.

Any issues for you as far as rough terrain and your frame contacting the trailer?

cke, Tug Toy and Oxbow Thank this.
