    More weight to the rear.

    I agree it looks goofy.

I assume the same. Counterweight to the area with higher carrying capacity.

    It’s unconventional but not “wrong”
We have 4 of those, and they’ll scale fine with the cwt toward the drives on a tandem tractor.

I cringe when I see them like that.

20 years ago some idiot loaded one like that only to knock down a pedestrian bridge on the Beltway and killed a couple people. @BigBob410 and @DougA might remember.

He's probably had issues loading it boom rear. It's entirely possible that he can get the boom lower down that way because it can lay on the low deck instead of on top of the axles. he's definitely got the space.

bigguns, DougA and cke Thank this.

Yes,a young inexperienced Canadian driver loaded a new Cat excavator on a step deck,at the old Locust Point piers. Was a Keen broker load, should never have been on that trailer, was at least 15'+ tall. Forget the model number, but it was definitely an RGN load. He didn't get far, made it out of the piers, down I-95 south, got on I-695 North and hit a concrete pedestrian bridge so hard it dropped it completely on the highway in rush hour. Crushed a car, others ran into it,at least one fatality, probably more, don't remember, but it was tragic. He made it through that, and get wedged under the next overpass, couple of hundred feet further. Just pure stupidity,100% preventable. There was a lot of blame on that incident.
