Might be a similar to the battlefield fuel rules. Makes stock more universal if everything uses the same parts.

Come to think of it, Port of Albany wants you to make an appointment also. I hauled steel out of there for 20 years, so they would usually cut me some slack. The last couple of years, they really started cracking down on appointments especially if it requires a crane. They like to know ahead of time what the workload is gonna be for the day so they know how many men to hire on in the morning. I could get loaded with a forklift, but I've seen heavylift guys show up with no appointment and sit until the next day...

We didn't have a rail siding, so the port would receive railcars for us. I could get maybe 2 or 3 loads a day. A railcar usually contained 4 truckloads, although sometimes I could load heavy with my div-load permit. This is 64,000 lbs. When I hauled beams , I would double up the dunnage because their forks were so thick. They used 25 ton forklifts, so most of the time we could put a load together on the ground and then just put it on the truck in 1 lift IMG_1434.JPG

the most expensive "widget" i've ever hauled. It's the rotor to a turbine power generation unit (like in dams, a small one BTW). weighs about 18,000lbs

The rebuild shop (that i was hauling for) said the bill for the rebuild is in the $500,000 range.

i told the guy at the delivery (above) that and he scoffed and said "oh hell, it's way more than that new."

I told dispatch this story at work and they said "oh, one time we had to haul one for the rebuild shop and we had to get a rider on our company insurance because it was so expensive. THE RIDER was $5,000."

Yeah, power plant stuff is high dollar. I regularly hauled $1.5 million coolant pumps for a while. When you have two on it's $3 million. Under a tarp.

I only missed out on one load so far this year that was really good because I refused to bump up my insurance enough for it.

apparently i'm the power generation dude (for a few days anyway). Had to go pick up this generator from a building they were removing. Sat out for one night, in a gated project and still got somewhat stripped. Unbelievable.

Also they decided to load with one excavator on one side and one on the other, chains on the frame and then pulling apart to pick it up and i could slide under it. Yeah, it went to 90 deg, i thought it was going over.

guy at the generator place said these run about a 100k.
