Direct tiedown is only good for 50%
10 foot rule doesn’t apply to something like that. What did it weigh?

This is exactly why I preach that guys must know the regulations, especially the securement regs, as good or better then the cops.

193.110 (d) Special rule for special purpose vehicles. The rules in this section do not apply to a vehicle transporting one or more articles of cargo such as, but not limited to, machinery or fabricated structural items (e.g., steel or concrete beams, crane booms, girders, and trusses, etc.) which, because of their design, size, shape, or weight, must be fastened by special methods. However, any article of cargo carried on that vehicle must be securely and adequately fastened to the vehicle.

that piece was only 50,000 lbs and was 60 ft long. Precast only gets secured at the ends near the dunnage, for 60' I probably should've had 7 tiedowns, which sort of covers the 10' rule. I only had 6 (4 X 4" straps, 2 X 5/16 grade 70 chains) According to my calculations, I still had enough to hold 60,000 lbs, but the cop didn't see it that way...

His argument was making no sense to me and my argument was making no sense to him... I should've had either you or @Humblepie there to argue on my behalf... I only wanted to get away from him, so I stopped arguing and did what he asked...

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

35 yrs of flatbedding and I thought I had a pretty good idea of what I was doing...I'm mostly retired now, maybe I'm just losing my focus on what the requirements are...

    Lepton1 and nikmirbre Thank this.

We might have a couple things confused, when I said the 10 foot rule doesn’t apply because thought we were talking about that generator or whatever it was that was posted, I got two people mixed up. The 10 rule applies to a beam. 60 foot beam needs 7.

Lepton1, cke and booley Thank this.
