Worked a couple days this week. Yesterday, I had a "super T", 15ft wide but I got lucky and mine was only about 40ft long. Naturally, I forgot to take a picture. Today's load was a 38 ton spandrel (whatever that is?) IMG_2879.JPG

Yeah that looks about right for a quarry trailer. Needs a few whole frame fishplates to compete with some of ours though!

couple more Double T's today, same place, although by the 2nd run, the baseball game (rockies) was going on, so that was fun with traffic and people and stuff nearby)

and then had to go preload a bridge girder. 20190912_152811_resized.jpg

that's a 45' trailer, that girder is about 6' wide. It weighs...............55,000lbs. (yeah, it's an oversize). The rig sitting is probably in the 87,000lb range.

So the company I work for does a lot of bridge girders (not me). They happened to be loading the same time I was picking up Double T's. So I got pics for you guys. This is apparently considered a medium sized one:
    20190912_090400(0)_resized.jpg

about 120 feet long, about 150,000lbs (just for the girder). The whole rig is in the 180,000 to 200,000lb range.

The guy said they get up to 180feet long or so and well over 200,000lbs.

Ill be pulling a spandrel tommorow. I havent seen one put into position before. That looks like an exterior wall. I just know we call them spandrel trailers because they are always set up with those nifty support frames that way. Ive seen them. But ive never figured out where in the puzzle they fit. Its fun watching a parking garage getting built. Ill see if i can get an answer from the driver in charge of the site. If either of us has a minute.

Ive been hauling identical double ts so i haven't bothered posting yet another.

PoleCrusher, booley and Oxbow Thank this.

Nvm... Think ive found a clue. At least in relation to double ts. Apparently spandrel means many things depending on the form of construction. (Ive only got half a day tomorrow, i i got restless) 2-Figure1-1.png

IDK, we usually just refer to them as a vertical wall (as opposed to a leaning wall). When they told me spandrel, I was like, "OK"... I do know that with these 1 piece loads, they pretty much have to go in order, they might be able to jump around a little, but if your piece doesn't show...they could be dead in the water...and they hate paying a raising gang/crane to stand around doing nothing...
My "super T" load the other day required 2 escorts, so naturally, 1 of my escorts showed up 45 minutes late. Which means the jobsite foreman is calling me every 5 minutes for half of our trip...
My second load yesterday was just stair risers, now these things just go in the corner of the building and can pretty much be installed at anytime... Well, I got in and out with the spandrel no problem(actually early). Hurried back to the precast place, and couldn't find my second load in any of the usual spots...Wasted probably a half hour before finding it still up by the batch plant (where I thought we weren't supposed to be). I imagine they didn't want to move it down to the yard unsecured (I should know that?)
So naturally, the foreman is calling me again, asking where I am! He was running ahead of schedule yesterday, had run out of structural pieces and was looking for my stairs...
You just can't win, it's OK when they make you sit 4 hours waiting for them but don't you dare arrive 5 minutes late... IMG_2881.JPG

so they send me to do rebar. bah. easy but boring.
    20190913_083124_resized.jpg

It took them 4 hours to unload that. had to move 3 times (it's a bridge, so some here, some in the middle of the freeway, some on the other side).

Call Dispatch to say what's next and the guy (who still drives when needed) says "I'm doing your job" Sends me pic that looks just like the ones up above with Double T's at that site.
I'm like YOU ARE DISPATCH, YOU SENT ME ON THIS DUMB JOB

    not
    my
    fault

Then they sent me to take this widget downtown right across from the baseball stadium (and i'm sure there's a baseball game today, there was yesterday) but i call the guy halfway there
    "oh, we postponed until Monday"

    well sweet

nikmirbre, booley, PoleCrusher and 3 others Thank this.
