Maybe cuz, I am getting ooooold. lol
I have been there, but not done that particular one. I have pulled regular b trains, plenty of long doubles too, but have not actually pulled this set up, just seen them. They are not near as popular as regular double side dump setups, probably for two reasons, most of our lead trailers are 3 axle, then a 2 axle, then another 3 or at least 2 axle trailer. The set ups I have sen with the fifth wheel on the trailer have all been four axle leads, so actually lose and axle and would have quite a bit less gross weight than a standard dolly setup.
Plus if using it as a single trailer, at least the one axle is too far back to get weight on, and a guy can't push on the fifth wheel if needed to either.

booley, D.Tibbitt and FerrissWheel Thank this.

I seen some pics on Facebook recently; I’ll see if I can find them.

Backing under and hooking to the trailer also folds the landing gear up.

That’s similar, I didn’t memorize the pictures but I think the had an actual pivoting fifth wheel. The dolly definitely had a kingpin sticking up.

I was going by this, my mistake. I gigured you were talking about the fifthwheel was on the back of the trailer.
You are apparently talking about an inverted fifth wheel like a lot of oilfield floats had.
Fine construction out of OK city had all their trailers rigged with one back in the 70's.
I have never seen a ups one, but if that is what you are talking about, I have seen a lot of flatbeds rigged like that.

    booley Thanks this.

That tends to happen when someone doesn’t know what they’re talking about but keeps talking.

    Art Vandelay Thanks this.
