@old iron questioned this pic. He states it legal. But loads over 3tiers high and 6 ft tall require belly straps. And belly straps do not count as main securement that’s required to cover for length.

Because he stated it was legal, I was just suggesting that he go back and review the regs.

I just reviewed the FMCSA driver's handbook for cargo securement and the only thing I can find about "3 tiers/ 6 ft high" is specifically describing dressed lumber, plywood, drywall or other engineered building products of similar shape...could structural steel fall under the category of "engineered building product"? I guess it could if you end up under the scrutiny of an overzealous LEO...
I'm gonna call this a grey area. You guys running 48 states probably have to deal with a bigger variety of LEO's than I do just running regional...but 33 years of hauling structural and I can't recall being hassled for not having my lower tiers tied down.
The handbook does mention immobilizing movement of cargo by using other cargo, which one could interpret as using the weight of other tiers stacked on top of another tier...

That was the worst thing about the flatbed work I did.

It was enough to make me seriously ponder going back to sticks and bricks for a big pay cut.

@TripleSix is correct, I was wrong, It needs an intermediate strap.

I don’t haul lots of steel, but if you ever find the need to to rig up something to grab a smaller beam, use a clevis in the manner of a “load choker”. Clevises work well.

To my knowledge that is only required on dressed lumber or similar building products. Still a good idea on these structural loads. Especially when they are blocked well apart like that.

Excellent idea! Just like in the video, when trying to wrap something, seems like sometimes you can only get one side tight while the other side remains loose. Or when you do get it snug, sometimes the bottom corner where the chain comes around will actually "lift" what you're trying to pull down...
Interestingly enough when I was reviewing the securement regs today, they suggest using a clevis on top when securing a large boulder instead of crossing the chains... there has been some discussion on the forum whether crossing chains (without a softener) is good or bad...

    Another Double T

and honestly there was another one, but they were so dang fast getting it off with the crane I didn't have a chance to get a picture (and TBH I forgot). Looks just like those two above though.

    Right downtown of course
Why can't they build big parking garages out in the middle of nowhere where we have some room to turn around? /s
