Ive almost taken a load of chassis out of down there but I don’t carry that much gear. I got 12 chains. My question is, why so many chains and binders? Is it really necessary?

 

For us it is. And thats because we 4 point every chassis. Since Ive got 4 chassis thats 16 chains.

And honestly i really don't know of any alternative. Especially loaded like they are piggy backing each other. Only one has all 4 wheels on the deck, and maybe you could use tire lassos on that if you had set big enough. But the rest stacked the way they are, only real good way is to do a 4 point securement.

I suppose you could get creative with straps in a pinch there is a place or two that might work actually.

But they make us carry so many chains for pretty much this exact reason.

Even then the occasional 5 chassis load comes out and we have to go down the road to our terminal to get even more. That is rare, but ive done it once.

Normally its 3 or less. Which would be 12 chains.

Seems we have 1 other thing that requires alot of chains but my brain is out of order atm.

 

They should give you guys 10’ chains for those loads. Can you use two binders on one chain?

In some places maybe, but it is all dependent on various obstructing objects. I mean theres alot of things these chains cant touch and where we throw them or how often is determined by if something on another chassis is in the way.

Are those for busses or custom build box trucks for UPS and the like?

 

Think these are for the custom trucks like Cintas/ fedex delivery trucks.

But weve gotten em for busses, mega RVs with rear steering. A bunch of different things depending on who needs what.

 

here I was reading your post and looking at the pictures and thinking man, this is good stuff and it's real important to get it right because it's important widgets.

in sarcasm, mostly, well some, ok just a little bit

 

That is the only loads i miss hauling with swift. Those chassis was my bread and butter. Easy and good paying run
