Anybody got any experience hauling oversize containers out of CA?

 

How big? Im assuming long beach?, I might know someone who has.

Yes, loading in Long Beach. I have a couple ?s, trying to pin down securement.

Regulations for typical containers state all four corners must be on the trailer, or supported by a structure capable of bearing the weight. Since we're going to be out 3" on each side, the actual corners won't be on the trailer, but it will still sit flat. So I'm not sure if we will be legal to set it right on the deck, and with only a couple inches to spare on height, we don’t have much choice.

Also, I've heard that CA requires straps on containers that are not on a chassis. With the side overhang and the design of my rails, straps will be difficult. I can't find any regulation in CA that states that, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

 

I was hoping to get you a better answer but they were similarly confused by that. They chained it and strapped it down just to cover thier tails. I'm not done digging but figured I'd let you know how far I got with my inquirys.

It's been a busy day, been moving in to the rig and having arguments with a bluetooth printer. And re re rearranging a massive pile of equipment.

Cross chain the top and a single chain front and back on the bottoms and your good to go. That covers the weight, straps are never required on containers, at least federally.

 

That's my plan, but I've heard there is a CA specific rule about straps. Scouring the internet has produced nothing so far.

 

You could always just run them from rub rail over and outside the rail to the winch. Put a twist in, and just snug them? Chains for the actual securement, and straps to appease a liberal loons' prying eyes.

 

There won't even be a place to hook to, except maybe the beam. And then it would be a stretch to get them to the winch.
