That seemed to be the big hang up with most guys. He was hauling “rgn loads” on a step deck. Everyone assumed he was cutting rates to do it. I’ve never heard of a trailer choice playing into a customers rate. Show up with a step to an rgn load and they don’t lower the rate.

My only concern was the way it was loaded. I’ve done loads like that many times on a step. But from a dock or ramp. Yes it can be done on those ramps that were being used. doesnt mean it should imoStray_Dog, DeereRunner97, staceydude and 6 others Thank this.

people concluded he was cutting rates when he posted his numbers in a braggadocio fashion/

I'm not one of those people. As far as I'm concerned if the trailer/loading equipment is rated for the task at hand and you can run the load safely/legally, then by all means have at it. Just be smart about it. I recall through reading/lurking that occasionally he wasn't smart about what he was doing and sometimes wanted to argue with people who were just trying to help him out.Stray_Dog, God prefers Diesels, DeereRunner97 and 9 others Thank this.

I was not talking about the guy specifically , but more in a general view of drivers and/or company undercutting a rgn load because it can be pulled on a stepdeck...
It happens in regular flatbed all the time. We actually just lost an account because another company undercut our rate . we had a bunch of connies running some machinery loads out of tx that would be a pita to run a regular flat because of tarping... Another company come in and said they could do it cheaper on a regular flat ..even with paying for tarps (we all know a freight claim is right around the corner) and poof there goes the contract.....just 1 example off top of my head ... im not sure if that mentality works itself into the bigger loads or not . but it seems wherever there is big money, theres always someone willing to do it cheaper....God prefers Diesels, Kyle G., 4mer trucker and 8 others Thank this. -
We used to also, but the trailers tail-boards were all steel and the corners were re-enforced and we had 12 or 20 ton jacks to support the corners.D.Tibbitt, God prefers Diesels, DeereRunner97 and 6 others Thank this.

we haul graders on a step deck....from the factory in IA back to canada. were not the only ones either....load it the other way around, on a 3 axle step. is it better suited for an RGN? of curse, but a truck can haul more freight down on a step then they can on an rgn to make it worth it. I.E more borad foot lumber or a full load of steel.
you should see a particular carrier that loads JD combines on a low pro step deck.... they have flipped a few of them.shawnhhllc, God prefers Diesels, PoleCrusher and 6 others Thank this. -
