I'm the same way, I take all I can. My last load home was from one of those utility trailer places. They had loads of wood sitting around. Some real nice looking 4x4s. Guy said take as many as I wanted because in the next day or so he was going to toss them all into the dumpster. I prolly tossed close to 40 on my deck. Tossed a chain over them and stuck it into the wind. I use them for all kinds of stuff around the hose. Last time I built some hog shelters out of them. Can't beat free wood.

Place that I used to load out of years back always put new 4X4’s on the loads. Nothing great, just softwood. Receiver didn’t want them, they had more than they would ever need. A coworker used to take stacks home. Built all kinds of stuff from them.

My 2 sheds are still sitting on free treated landscape ties.
I built a 12'X7' ground level deck on treated landscape ties with a 2X6 floor. I also supplied my brother in law with materials for a full fence on 3 sides of his house and more. -
One man’s trash another man’s treasure, as they say. I am not above pulling good wood out of the dumpster, I’ve done it many times. Same with edge protectors, i must have hundreds of cardboard edge protectors in the shed or in my side box that I’ve pulled out of the dumpster or off the ground. They work great for the crap I haul.
Edit: I am talking about the wood dumpster at our yard, I don’t just go climbing into random dumpsters lol. -
Of you are up by Bonners ferry, on 95 on 5 mile hill, just pull off at the info pull off. You can see them decent from there usually. I don't know about farther south.cke, D.Tibbitt, PoleCrusher and 1 other person Thank this.

Whenever I load at a steel yard, I snag a bunch of the straps that folks toss aside. I take them home and cut them up into 16" sections or so. Use them for strap protection.

Nice save…….

I'm always looking for strap hooks. We can trade them in and get $10 off a new strap. I've got 6 hooks that we've found in the last couple weeks back in the side box. Got a couple old straps for cutting for edge protection that I found.
I'm always hoarding stuff on the truck, drives Mrs. Crusher absolutely crazy, so bonus points for me. Ya just never know when something is gonna come in handy. -
Not really a load photo but I’m as happy with these from AZDOT scales as a pretty load of Roasted Molybdenum !
black_dog106, BigBob410, Flint1 and 17 others Thank this.
