So I’ve come out of retirement a little bit lately. I’m trying to limit myself to 1 day a week. I’m doing yard moves for a trash hauler (yeah I know…) but I only have to drive a quarter mile at a time. Monday I hauled a few loads of steel cuz steel is what I did for the majority of my flatbed life. 6A7AE815-F742-4C86-B8F3-A187FB1A7CB8.jpeg Today I moved some barriers for another guy and it’s such an easy deal that I’m probably gonna be doing it for 3 or 4 more days. So much for 1 day a week…

A few summers ago when my uncle hurt his back I drove his truck. I did a ton of barriers on the NY Thruway. Didn't mind em other than standing 2ft from traffic

Yeah last year we were right out on I-88 and I always tried to stay behind the barriers. I’m not a big fan of just being protected by the big orange barrels. Today we were just moving them from the contractor’s yard to another boneyard they’ve acquired next to the actual project. Didn’t even require a safety vest…

I-88. Pulling out of precast's yard? They get most of the state work contracts. A lot of what we did was around the new tap bridge and up on 90

Try spending 20 years doing that, playing in traffic. You have to have your head on a swivel, and never get complacent. Always watch the oncoming traffic and occasionally, the traffic from the other direction in case they forget what lane they're supposed to be driving in. o_O

I've hauled that stuff before. They wouldn't even give me my paperwork until they went out there and made sure it was tarped. And this stuff was even sheathed in it's own plastic containment.
