I have probably close to 14 of them. We typically use them on double drops if the holes are to small to get a 4” hook in. But they are a pain in the ### to keep hooked on both sides as you tighten the strap. 26429808-1069-445C-BF2F-6FA8B02B3440.jpeg
As for your step deck, I’ve seen guys do something similar to this with an even shorter chain, hooking on each side of the axle. 9296C299-2819-4239-AE9F-28D637378093.jpeg

My Easter hometime load, oversized tank ends from OH to MN. They require constant babysitting, but they’ll get me home for the weekend:).

Yeah, have seen that kind of hookup, also. Do what's necessary to get the load secured, but like you said, all those loose chain ends could fall loose whenever the slack was sufficient, so it was always a juggling act. :)

Just curious, how come you chained that load versus strapping it?

A scrap tire under each stack will stop them from rocking and makes them easier to secure.

That was a load of scrap titanium plate cutouts. I wanted chains but also the ability to tighten going down the road without removing the tarp. B30360E7-5BD2-4C19-82A6-8017DA125CF0.jpeg 1F4D3006-790B-4EA4-8423-32342CD0D898.jpeg
