That’s 550 to 62. Best route out during winter or any other time.

Weigh station in Cortez isn't very busy, and those cops get bored.

Listen to GPD. That route is a nightmare, especially now that it's tourist season. The roads are like he says, only worse with the tourist traffic. When I took it, I thought it was a short shot to a load down in Azteca/Farmington, NM. It was a 4 hour white knuckle ride..especially from Ouray to Durango. And I was empty. But if you're in for a leisurely tense filled ride to test your nerves and gumption...go for it. Anytime I have to go through again, it'll be back up to I-70 and over to US 191 to US 160...espeically if loaded and during tourist season. o_O

Edit: The other routes might be good, no experience with them, but I would NOT go US 550 south past Ouray again, personally. :) After Durango, US 550 is darn pleasant...it's those narrow roads with no guardrail and high mountain sides that is the problem between Ouray and Durango.

Thanks for the tips boys, I’m gonna check the CDOT website before I roll one more time. So far no restrictions for the route I’m gonna go with 550 to the 62. I’ll keep you posted.
