I hear that brother !! They are the most petty mfers that exist. They will also write you up if u don't have instruction manual for ur elog or 8 days worth of backup paper logs. They got me on that 2 years ago along with a chaffed airline, that I'm pretty sure wasn't chaffed until the officer got under the trailer if u know what I mean...

That looks like a @Kyle G. Load. I don't think he straps over the top of those either.. It is just thin sheet metal that would bend under pressure is my guess

WI to WI, really just a quick and easy Menards run to pay the fuel relocating the truck. First time tarpping since Feb…almost forgot how lol.

I know it doesn’t look like it, but those plastic bands they use are actually pretty dang solid. I’ve tipped them over double stacked and the bands still didn’t break. Plus many of the bigger ones are bolted to the pallet inside the cabinet (not sure about those little guys though).

I still strap over the top, screw ‘em. But I don’t haul out of the manufacturer, I only haul out of our yard and to/from our customer’s jobsites. So the rules are a little different for me. I haven’t wrecked one yet doing it my way, nor have I heard any complaints from our customer. So I’ll keep doing it my way. Just gotta be careful about where you place your strap. On the pad mounted units (the green ones), you always have the heavy side where the oil (and all the weight) is, and the cabinet side, which is just thin sheet metal over empty space, as @D.Tibbitt mentioned. I always put the heavy side facing out on the trailer, so my strap pressure pushes down more on the solid part and less on the cabinet. If you pull a strap down against the cabinet, you will crush it and/or make it so the latch doesn’t line up right.

Not that I’m an expert or anything, I just make this #### up as I go along. LOL

Here’s another one I posted recently. Even on those little pole mounted units, I strap over the top. The manufacturer will want you to only strap over the pallets so as to not damage the lids or the insulators or the valves on the sides. Screw that, I do it my way. I only use 2 inch strap, and climb up there and make sure the straps are placed just so before I tighten. It’s not impossible, just gotta be very meticulous about strap placement and tension.

Most that we haul have provisions for chaining. When we do get those smaller ones the guys use corner protectors and carpet or something to protect the paint. It’s 1100mi to Toronto or 1350mi to Montreal, and almost 900mi of it is a 2lane skidder trail through N.W. Onterrible. You can hold them on there with a snug belt, but we wouldn’t get away without paint damage with nothing under them.
