I looked into those. They were $12k, and you’re fixed to 8’ in stretch length. I had these “inriggers” (xl manufactured them, and that’s what they called them) at $200 a piece. I like how modular they are, and easy to store. Plus, you use as many or as little as you want. Funny thing though, XL would not give me any weight rating on them. They officially said that they are for covering the gap when stretched with plywood so that road debris does not come up and get the load dirty! F ing joke. They’re fairly heavy duty, and I bought enough to go 12” on center over 8’ just like the frame under the rest of the deck

How far are you going to space them out,and what kind of wood will the customer use etc.
I'm sure that's why they don't want the liability.
That is a slick setup.
And plenty easy for one guy to use and not bust your nutsack.PoleCrusher, FerrissWheel, CAXPT and 5 others Thank this. -
while I don’t recall having made a comment on that thread I did see it.
You have crates not lumber//
If the plan is to haul 48k loads of dimensional lumber on a regular basis; a lowboy is not the ideal candidate for equipment. I’ve seen it done, sometimes you do what you gotta do to make things work.
Right tool for the job/ you can use a crescent wrench as a hammer on occasion, doesn’t make it the tool of choice.
eta- if you meant flatbed freight in general on a dd, i think theres more leeway there. At a regular customer of mine they get a rigging outfit that brings in several loads a week of fat/step freight on a double drop. Based on the rate they charge it seems to pay them about fuel money as well. Which certainly affects rates for other trailer types as they are taking what would otherwise be a great lane and turning it into a backhaul/
Just a different angle to consider.PoleCrusher, FerrissWheel, cke and 7 others Thank this. -

We have an XL double drop that was bought for hauling 10 ft. Reels of conduit, because my boss is an idiot. We often mix in other odds and ends with the conduit reels if it’s going to the same area. It works, but it’s a total pita (and takes twice as long) to secure everything with ratchet straps.

I kinda hate IMTS. I sit around 8.5-9 hrs and then they call me into the hall to get loaded. Never can quite get my 10 hr reset. Oh well, 15 hrs later I'm back home. Not how I wanted to spend my sunday.
