Brush Ave? I walked down the street to see what I was in for, I think (?) I know where you’re talking about…
Supposed to go back on Tuesday, you want me to poke someone in the nose?

Ran out of coil racks, chains and binders on this one.

Sanford and Sons moving with some of the last bits for a new dredge setup. (Only started securement when I snapped the pic)

First full size coil and first time trying the whole "threading" the coil/chain guards on chain. I suppose they have their place, but I don't care for them.

    Skidded is many much easier.

I do 2 chains threaded into the edge protector. Just using 1 protector per chain makes a cluster f.

I also don’t like them that much but it’s the best option really.

Good job and thanks for reminding me just how happy I am that I don’t have to haul coils…

Yeah, I hear you, but unless you have coil cuffs, or rubber-backed steel corner protectors, they'll do the job nicely in a pinch. I know they are a pain, having used them enough times until I did get the above mentioned securement devices, but if that's all you have, you have to use what you've got. :)

    Nice job on the securements.

I have the bigger metal protectors (non rubber backed), but they were always smaller coils where it was 2-3 chains spaced out more. I thought the smaller ones would work better, but never thought of threading 2 chains through one.

I try to plan ahead with ideas, usually to a fault. Bought 2 new binders last August just for this occasion - and to compare to see if spending 3x as much on the durabilt was actually worth it to connect directly to the J-plates. I actually used them on my reels also, and they work well hooking directly to my stake pockets (I know that'll divide some here lol).

    And the Durabilt for $100+

Cool, for me it’s all about what the ratings are on your trailer, I don’t use stake pockets because on my Reitneour they aren’t as strong as the rails for example. I’ve seen those binders, interesting….

All my binders are USA made by Columbus McKinnon. They will last a lifetime and are pretty pricey. I probably have $2k in binders. Anyway I buy the 3/8-1/2” ones with over 9k WLL and because they also work for 1/2” I can hook the clevis directly on a lot of machines, or J plates. I would strongly recommend against hooking it to a stake pocket. Your trusting like a 2” weld max.

Rated the same as spools or combination of spools and pockets @ 6600#. The broad area of a slip hook is less concentrated load than a chain link, which kind of dispels the fear of "ripping through".
