Off to the power plant again in WY. I found these loads Friday and no one booked them so picked up Monday. I know there isn’t much coming out of Wyoming but man at $3.72 a mile, no tarp not heavy….

@booley , your killing me with those strap securements when you should have chains ;). I know I know…… still some what legal.. Whipping those chains out at my age gives me my upper torso work out when I do my steel loads. :D

@Diesel Dave I threw chains for over 20 years, now that I’m old and feeble I prefer throwing straps

I hear ya. Im 62 and struggle throwing those chains over in those high fabricated steel loads, sometimes aggravating a rotator cup or something. That’s when I bring out the rope “trick”, hook up the chain and pull them over with the rope. If I was to use all straps, it would require countless softners and climbing all over the load. Regardless, I’ve done both.:D:cool:

@Diesel Dave I’ll be 67 this year. Started flatbedding in 84 and I could throw chain like nobody’s business…fast forward to around 05 or so…started gradually using straps on fancy painted stuff.
Even last year when I was doing concrete plank, I was still using chains. I’d drape all the chains over the front of the load and then get down and just kinda walk them back to where I wanted them. Like you say, placing all the softeners is a hassle that’s why we use them big corner boards and just bunch the straps close together.

I’m supposed to be retired…the last guy I was hauling structural for was chaining all my loads for me ;)
This guy made me a ridiculous offer to work for him and was even helping me out for about the first week but I guess the honeymoon is over, I’m finding myself having to get more of my own loads ready…although the guys at the place we’re hauling out of feel sorry for the old man and usually help me out ;)

Just curious… but how would chains be more preferred over straps? Still learning. Both can get just as tight right?
