@Diesel Dave I showed up on a job in midtown Manhattan once for 7am. Erector tells me the load was scheduled for 12:30. Wandered around midtown for the morning. Went to the set of one of those outdoor morning news/talk shows, Rockefeller Ctr etc…
Twenty plus years ago I used to load a lot of my own loads. Pet peeve of mine is having bentplate facing the outside of a load, if I loaded that, I would’ve tried to spin it so the plate faces inwards. I guess you gotta take what you can get…
That fabricator knows their stuff, looks like they put a notch in the plate near the center of the beam so the erector can get a choker through it for rigging, unlike the ugly load I did back in February![]()

Funny thing you mentioned about that plate facing out wards. The fabricators notice when I was on there scale, where I had put 3 chains of securement were bent due to the chains. They took pictures and sent them to the office. I told dispatch it’s nothing new, it happens all the time. Anywho…… when I got to my delivery point, when I removed the chains, it pop back to its normal position and only left a little notch from the chains. The picture I took for that load was the results “after”. Here’s the pictures with the chains on it:

I was shocked myself when I saw how easy I bent plate steel with chains. At least it felt like it wasn’t going anywhere lol.

Gotta unhook the neck every once in a while. Had a small(3500 lb) machine behind the forklift. Was a nice easy Friday.God prefers Diesels, Winnyf1, CAXPT and 9 others Thank this. -

Way back on the when I drove for an O/O in my rookie years, we would load an empty container from the port and go elsewhere to load it up, basically a 2 drop set up(freight and drop empty at different port). My securement was 2 chains(lower front and back) and 3 straps over the top on a flatbed. Never had an issue. But fast forward; been told(hearsay), that it’s illegal to haul a loaded container on a flatbed. Can someone enlighten me if this is true or false. Btw, excellent securement, I was gonna say it was a bit overkill but then read you had 30k in it or gross.

Seen this truck(Fool) drive into my pick up point this morning. He was parked outside(must of been there overnight), 3 coils ……anyways, when I was inside the facility waiting to get loaded, he pulled in “from being parked outside” into a the facility with a slanted driveway without any securement at all. I was like “WTF”…… this foo has some big balls. Anyway these 2 pictures speak for themselves. Anyone recognize the company?

Did they let you stand on your flatbed and put the chains in the top corners before they loaded it?

It is NOT unlawful to haul loaded containers on a flatbed. Happens all the time.God prefers Diesels, beastr123, Kyle G. and 5 others Thank this.

Not illegal. All 4 corners need to be supported if it's loaded. The corners can hang off if it's empty.
Section C below is for loaded containers on a flatbed. Section D covers unloaded containers.
I also hauled lots of containers loaded like you did. 1 front and back at the bottom then 2 4" straps over the top of a 20ft container. Had a customer that had 5-6 20ft containers that functioned as a mobile shop and tool room. They were about 20K lbs each.NoBigHurry, God prefers Diesels, Diesel Dave and 5 others Thank this.
