    @booley

    Does the shipper not allow chains to secure the beams? Or is it just personal preference

    I don’t have a bone in the fight but seems all the old hands around here state something like “steel to secure steel” or some other chest beating mantra ####.

    I’m not going to speak for @booley because he has many more years than me. My theory is it really doesn’t matter much on loads like that. Center beam is the problem child, your right foot controls it. Put enough on it to be DOT legal roll carefully.

    Long as you have the correct WLL required and softners(so it don’t cut the straps) it’s legal. I’ve seen more loads lately that run similar with straps. I personally use chains. And I have called out @booley on this. :rolleyes::D. That’s why we go back and forth calling each other out. :cool:;):p

    Probably a little of both…I used chain for years, now I prefer straps. Bridge steel would require softeners even if I used chain, so straps are easier.

    Bingo! We always use more than enough securement to cover length and weight. The 80’ beams had 10 straps…the 50’ beams had 7 straps. To be honest, I was a little concerned about that middle beam on the short load. The only thing holding it was the friction of the spacer blocks between the outside beams. I probably should’ve put a separate strap at each end of the center beam.
    However I just decided to “drive accordingly”

    question, would you ever hook the straps that are over the top trailer to the frame on the bottom trailer, to the lip on the frame, which would be center area of the trailer ?

    Not sure I understand what you’re saying? I do know climbing around under the decked trailer to tie it down would be a dirty, major pain in the bttu.
    I did give some thought to cross chaining the forward axle……
