Do you have to chain/unchain the whole load at every stop? Or is it loaded so you can just get away with doing a few…
I almost considered doing warehouse steel once but then realized all the chaining and unchaining involved and they even used tarps sometimes (!!)
I think your trips last a few days (?) where I would’ve been doing everything in 1 day…

I think @staceydude got a gig doing that for a short time.
Sounds like something a connie and a place you can sling chains while theyre loading so you can secure and unsecure as you go would be the ticket. Likely be a long day anyways though imo

Depends on load, but usually have several stops where you can just loosen & lift chain over a few pieces. Loads like that the 1st couple stops had to take off top, rest just loosen 5-6.

Good evening my fellow road warriors. I made it to the home 20 yesterday evening after making my delivery in Plano, TX. I had the trailer loaded to the max with a 7,500lb. switch gear on a single 8x8 pallet. Woohoo. My delivery went awry in Doral, FL last Friday and I was stuck at the receiver with a trailer full of water filtration pumps and the like. I arrived on time last Friday morning in Doral only to find out that they didn't have the equipment to unload me. What a joke. They knew for weeks that this load was coming and they knew the dimensions. It wasn't all that heavy either. I had 9 pieces in total and the heaviest was 9,500lbs down to a 350lb. pallet. The only reason for the need to have larger equipment to unload me was because of the size of the frames these systems were built on. They also had these little forklifts designed to move pallets in a warehouse.

So, I sat the weekend in Doral at the receiver and on Monday of last week they decided that it would take a crane to unload me but they had not decided on who was responsible for paying for a crane. That took another day and finally Tuesday afternoon a crane that was way too large arrived to unload this stuff. By this time I was livid and ready to commit a homicide. What made things even better was that when the crane was ordered the crane company sent a single man as the crane operator without a crew to assist with the rigging. Sheesh. Guess who was the crane rigger last Tuesday? Me. Had I not performed the rigging it would have taken hours upon hours for this guy to rig it and operate the crane himself. My guess is that the receiver didn't want to pay for the crew to come with the crane or something like that. This is what took 4 days to unload in Doral...

After this wretched affair was over I had to search for a load because I had to cancel the load I had originally scheduled to leave Florida. I needed to go to Texas for the weekend and I came up with this junk load to get me home.

Oh well. I had to cut my losses and just be done with it and move on. Now I'm home with my family and I am taking them out to dinner and we are going bowling. Yeah buddy. Good family fun.

‘I did haul car body steel for a bit. Sometimes steel sheet and sometime aluminum sheet places on steel pallets for stamped car body parts. Straps only on these with a conestoga.

yes, strap and unstrap every single time as many loads as you can run a day with about 15 minutes to load and strap and boogie 18-22 minutes commute, unstrap unload and then strap return pallets and rinse and repeat. I got really good at backing into wharehouse lol. The Dallas heat was brutal and I’m getting old. One day I backed into wharehouse and the temp was 127F.

I’m delivering hay and feed now for a feed store chain. All day cab stuff and much easier on the old body.

Y'know, that's ###### clever. Even hiring you to haul it, he's probably waaaaaay ahead of where he'd be if he had a company sort the product for a driveway job of that size.

So, just to make sure I'm seeing it right, because it's slow during lunch and I'm wanting to just do a rough calculation on what it'd cost him if he'd bought it elsewise: I think I'm seeing a total of 18 skids of 12" x 24" x (2"?) pavers?
