When I hauled reels I carried a 8ft 1/4inch steel rod with a 7/8inch loop on one end and a an L shaped handle on the other.
I stored it in a 1.25 inch ID plastic pipe across the frame behind the sleeper and headache rack.

 

I made mine out of PVC, with a PVC T cut in the middle of the long side for straps and v boards, and a cap with rope loop out of the other end for chain/strap to pull through reels...and it was a two piece with each end having either a male or female pvc thread to join them for length if needed.

 

Ok thanks guys, never hauled them but always looked at the securement and figured there was either some voodoo magic going on or someone fashioned something out of a steel pipe or something, might have to make an attachment for my extendable pole for edge protectors as a just in case type deal

I thought it was just supposed to rain a little this morning LOL. Started out as tiny hail, then turned into this BS. We even had some thunder and lightning thrown in. Crazy times!

Ahh I remember those guys. Very very well. Thought about going over there for a minute but then well things escalated quickly.
