As long as you are not wanting to work your way round the world and deliver in the UK, been standard practice there since well before I entered the industry in 1962. Crosses front and back on almost everything and I have often wondered why it was not more common in the States. Of course back in those days it was ropes not straps and any left over after the rear cross was made with the leftover bit passed up again through the middle of the cross and then tensioned again with a typical 'drivers' dolly hitch'. This was called a Dundee, or Scotch, Cross because we all assumed the practice was started in Scotland.
But yes, agreed, nice job Driver.

When I started hauling a lot of masonry nearly five years ago I wanted some of those nice aluminum screens, but they were well over $100 each back then. I have no idea how much they are now. I built these using a 42” brick lintel and 4” goat panel. I trimmed half an inch off the end of the lintel so that they fit easily between the main beams of my trailer for easy storage in the belly.
I have about $35 each in them.
They’re pretty tough, and work well for a multitude of things.
They also work really nicely as edge protectors/containment for shingles.Last edited: Mar 11, 2025

Fun stuff.
You always wonder if it’s “secure”.
