    Guys, I gotta go on record as having NEVER hauled a coil, but as I look at this 24 ton coil, in a panic stop or "incident" I see the forward piece of dunnage becoming a "fulcrum" in a 1st class lever. The upper mass of the coil becomes the "effort" & the rear chains & part of the mass of the bottom of the coil become the "load". I'm picturing those rear chains popping like buttons off a shirt. It seems to me that a cradle of 12" x 12"s might be better. I know a lot of you are students of physics, your thoughts on this.............

    Yep and the lumber is even beveled too boot.
    Yes not properly tied down it will and can roll forward. That's why we call that way suicide.. That's why you chain forward / straight down and back.
    To keep the mass RE coil. from moving when the motion of said mass changes in a sudden manner from the gravity it was being a customed to being moved in.
