Oh,.. duh.
I honestly dont know. Permits are for 79'6".
Its long. Trailer is supposed to be 53' according to my carrier. No mention as to the tractor. But taking a wild guess,.. the wheel base is every bit 300".

If your'e over 80 long, better not get caught and not having a rear pilot.. Can get costly
Hurst Thanks this. -
You really need to measure before you move again. The wrong trailer length will invalidate your permit and they can write you weight tickets starting from 80k.
When I ran my trailer as a closed 4 axle it was 61' with the flip neck down.
What well length do you have? 26 or 29'
Also if you are over that 79' length overall, again your permits run the risk of being invalid. I know a guy who got ticket for $8k for being 6" longer than his permit.
Just trying to help...281ric, Hurst and Oscar the KW Thank this. -
281ric Thanks this.

Damit Ron, you hit reply before me!

I will measure this in the morning before I get rolling.
Say I do get pulled in with the 4th axle down and its over 80',.. does it fall directly on me for driving it? I dont suppose playing stupid would go over very well,.. I'm supposed to know what I am driving. Or will my carrier take the hit? I already know what he is going to tell me,.. Just curious as to where the liability is. Me or him?

You need to make sure you have at least the following measurements:
Overall length
Axle spacing for each axle
Steer axle to 1st drive axle (this will vary depending which axle you have down)
Kingpin to rear axle (this will vary depending how many axles you have on the ground)
And if the lift axle on the tractor has a pressure control valve - you need to make sure you have the correct amount of weight on it.CanadianVaquero, 281ric and Hurst Thank this. -
I wonder why heavy haul rates aren't what they used to be?
peterbilt_2005, Son, RGN and 3 others Thank this. -
No the ticket is all yours.
I can tell you if they go to the trouble of measuring they will not look kindly. Passingthru runs back there more and can probably tell you which state is sensitive to what.
I always try and permit for just under true next limit - if I am 11 4 wide I will permit for 11 11 as it does not make a difference normally for route or escorts
You should download the SCRA permit regulation pdf to you phone or pc or tablet. It will tell the requirement and limits for axles groups length escorts by state. It will also have a contact number for each stage permit office.Hurst Thanks this.
