Been busy.
Hauled a CAT 374F minus the boom and counter weight. 111k machine.
Then picked up an old Michigan Forklift. 86k machine.
No pics of either of those.
Just picked up a CAT 336F. Grossed out at 147k.

Got word on monday.. machine shop got new head for my truck. They should get it by today and truck should be running by Friday they said. They wanted told hold it till Monday to make sure I wont have any more problems. I said no problem.. put a load on it.. run the snot out of it. I dont need any more problems.
So hopefully this is my last week of heavy haul.
I have a new respect for the heavy haul guys. Seems I dont quite have the stamina and fortitude I once had 20yrs ago. I thought I would jump back in and eezy peezy. No sirs... I feel my age. Realize just how out of shape I really am.
Safe travels everyone!!

I use chains on the front anyway. Just dont let them see you do it.
I have old mud flaps that I cut up for pipe like yours. For larger pipe.. I hook chains on the front in the bevel (gas main). Just be careful not to touch the coating and not too tight on the bevels so it doesnt mark or scar the pipe.
The chains I use on the front are not for sucurement.. they are to prevent the pipe from crashing through the back of my truck if I need to stop hard or have an accident. I want to live.

Yep belly wraps for sure from now on and I'm not a fan of pyramid now. I'll put in the extra work to load it square.

KenworthGuyNH, truckdad, Chewy352 and 1 other person Thank this.

Why would it be more stable? My thought for next time is 4 layers 16 accross. Belly wrap the first 2 layers together and strap down with 6 straps. Belly wrap the top two layers and strap them down with 6 straps.
-
Either way belly wraps are a must and I knew better.

In my opinion its 100% safer to use dunnage and then load and strap the pipe in layers. No wedges needed after its all strapped up.

Well. I'm heading for the river, here in Blythe. Got to love loads when the guy says "just follow me"CanadianVaquero, tsavory, truckdad and 2 others Thank this. -
More of the same old stuff.

I'm not going to flog the horse anymore. a pyramid is more stable as it has a lower center of gravity and is easier to make into one bundle, if your relying on wedges your not tying a pyramid down right. if you strip and strap pipe it's easier for one layer to move because it's not locking itself together. Another one of those I'll haul it my way you haul it yours things. @Hurst you need to quit telling people to hook a chain in the ends of pipeline pipe if that's the way you want to do it that's fine but quit doling out bad advice to everybody else.
CanadianVaquero, KenworthGuyNH and MJ1657 Thank this.
