I remember the first time I went out west. Stopped over in Amarillo. Had an old aerodyne W9. It was the first time I'd ever seen what was called a west coast truck...you know, low to the ground and the frame stretched out. West coast mirror, west coast bumper (formerly called the Texas bumper)I thought it was stupid looking, but it grew on me really quick. First thought was, how in the heck do you get one of those things into a grocery warehouse (yeah, I had that doorslammer mentality once too, where your entire world revolves around the grocery warehouse and bumping docks and you can't see anything else).
Ever been to the PNW? How about western Canada, Yukon and NWT? Or even the UP Michigan? First thing you notice is how beefy the trucks are.
If the goobers in the goobermint tried to go with 1 uniform set of rules, we would all be driving POS lightweight Prime trucks. Imagine having to pull a heavyhaul load with a Prime truck. No west coast trucks. No big house sleepers. No 18 speeds, no lockers, no 2 or 3 speed rears, no big engines. No flat tops. We would all be paying top dollar for a bottom end throw it away in 200000 miles truck. Isthis what you really want, driver?
When it comes to the goobermint and our industry, bet on them doing something stupid.Last edited: Oct 5, 2015

Six, that is a very insightful post. It does make a lot of sense that a truck setup that works great out west wouldn't work as well as the northeast, and vice versa.
Your post reminds me of a blast from the past-- do you remember the cabovers with multiple license plates on the front? I was working for a mom and pop lumber yard as a kid and used to park those cabovers, with no power steering. Those steering wheels felt like they were welded in place!whoopNride and tsavory Thank this. -
Just a "hot shot" driver hauling some plastic...... Hhmmmm. Oversized????
Found him running up out of winnamucca, NV. As I run the back roads to Oregon.... -
