    @skellr : That "trailer" doesn't seem... right. Like, the guy could probably rent a legal DOT-approved trailer for less money than that thing is going to cost him down the road. And are those things even bundled together? I'm amazed they aren't spilling all over the place.

    There is a chain wrapped around them in the middle but the straps are comical. I can see the tailgate having more dents than a golf ball in the future.

    Looks like a string of 3/4" sucker rod. Makes good fencing. You must have been in oil country?

    Truckdad is very observant, as usual. I can tell you exactly what happened:

    Look at the pickup-- headache rack, spotlights, and a fire extinguisher. This is an oilfield setup.
    The big boss said, "Get rid of that rod. I don't care what you do with it, just get rid of it."

    So the guy grabbed the closest trailer he could find so he could bring the rod home before somebody else grabbed it up.
