    I only carry 3/8 and use 6 on 42k-44k coils and I'll put 7 on the 45k and up

    Chewy352 Thanks this.

    @spax
    That's one of those deals that's like a quiver of arrows!
    And the ones in the middle are waiting to take flight!!
    Always wrap them tight! in a few places!

    I have to agree with this. I had 6 3/8 chains and screw binders on a 43k coil with 3 racks on the bottom to brace the dunnage. I love my snap binders,.. but even my lazy butt uses only screw binders on coils.

    I only have 4 5/16 chains and only use them for small loads or where eyelets are too small for the 3/8 hooks to fit through.

    I understand if thats all you have. I would encourage you to request stronger chains for heavy coils like that.

    5/16 chains IRC are rated at 4700 lbs wll. 3/8 are either 5600 or 6600,.. someone posted it for me the other day and I cant remember.

    Considering most trailer tie down points are only 5400 lbs,.. I would want my chain to be stronger than the tie down point.

    I'm not trying to chastise or belittle you Chewy. Only give you my opinion and how I do it.

    Yall have heard enough about my company to know that they won't fill my request. Heck they think all I need is 6 chains and binders. I have 11 because each time I had a truck with more I left it with their minimum and built my supply up.

    Yes indeed. That was my thinking exactly. I was much more worried about the two middle bundles than the outside two had I only used straps.

    A weak point is a weak point though. I fail to see why it matters if my weak point is the trailer or the chain though. The way I see it I still have the same force holding the coil with 7 5/16 chains as I do with 4 or 5 3/8 chains. For the record I did not do the math. Just a guestamate.

    Ruthless and MJ1657 Thank this.
