    The smaller the roller, the more of an issue that will be.

    @johndeere4020

    Last week you were having a securement discussion with someone about chaining to the same side of the trailer, is this what you meant? Also what was that term again?

    This is the only size roller that fits on the rollback, the bigger ones are too tall. We don't have any of the smaller remote controlled ones.

    I'm interested. But I am very specific on the specs I am looking for. I am in no hurry,.. the right truck will present itself to me when its the right time. Thats how I feel about it.

    Cosmetically I'd prefer to find one with a clean nice interior. The outside is easier for me to repair dings and dents or replace chrome etc.

    The one issue I have and seems to be difficult is rust. Almost all of them that I have seen had rust issues on the frame and suspension were allowed to go beyond what I call treatable surface rust. That really tweaked a nerve in me when I was told I could just sand it down and paint over it. Especially when I am looking at a CAT engine that has been carelessly spray painted over in order to look better,.. but never took the time to remove or mask off things that should not have been painted. I mean when the belts and the AC, alternator all have yellow paint on them.. I get concerned. Gut instinct takes over and I walk away.

    Man those road side tire changers and wreckers are insane. I said F it and closed a lane on the interstate with my triangles.

    Back in 1986 I went to work for a towing/equipment transport company. I drove a 1981 GMC with a 220 Holmes for 8 months and then the owner asked how I would feel getting into the equipment side of things. Excited and over eager to be like the big boys,. I was then switching between a 1982 International 1900 roll off like yours and the wrecker. 2 yrs later I was doing lowboy work.

    So I am all too familiar with exactly the kind of work you are doing now. Stupid long days,.. especially when I was on 24hr call on the weekends. Very rare to be away from home over night, Never for more than a few days.

    I look back and have mixed feelings. I miss being home and having a lot of fun learning from the old timers at work. But being the 'youngin' I always got the grunt work of everything. I'd come home and fall a sleep on the couch many nights.

    When ever I went out to do a tire change on the interstate and the car was too close to the travel lanes like that,.. to the shock and horror of the owners,.. I drove the car into the grass or closer to the guard rail as I could. They often called my boss and told them I moved the car with a flat tire and if any suspension or other damage happened he was going to get a bill.

    I would always tell them to go sit up in my truck, rather than have them standing and wondering around me and being there so close to traffic. I never understood how grown people,.. often twice my age did not have the common sense to stay away from traffic. Instead they would be upset at how close people drove by. I always thought to myself,.. and I'm sure you do exactly the same thing when you pass by someone on the shoulder. Hypocrites.

    Lotta folks se to think more about potential damage of rolling a car at 4 mph than the damage from a vehicle hitting them at 65.

    Last week, 2am hammering down the cross Bronx in the left lane radio comes alive with some northbounder hollerin about my southbound right lane by third ave.
    Those that run there know there's a decent merge there.

    Two cars. Parked in the right lane. Lights off. Lady standing half in the middle lane texting & watching a guy changing her drivers side rear tire.

    ####in people.
