@Chewy352 From what I've read on TTR you seem to be one of the hardest working, responsible drivers out there. I would probably still be in business if I'd had someone like you to train 10 yrs. ago. The issue up here in the hills is it starts raining end of Oct and thru March. We average 50" (2010-2011 Grass Valley got 82") and it gets downright slow thru the winter. Guessing thats why its hard to get quality drivers.

I've never had any experience with Chinese steel, but my first reaction would be to run away as fast as possible. I see enough steel in my day to know that I'd much rather have stuff manufactured here in North America than something shipped from a country with very few labour laws or consumer protection laws.

    I really hate this stuff.

It ships in a container/van but then we load it on a deck and have to maintain it's integrity in transit, WITHOUT crushing the top layer. Which, short of two 1x4's strapped together used as edge protection (and are incredibly unsafe when unstrapping) is impossible to do.

And apparently (it hasn't happened to me) but if the plastic wrap is compromised, and your strap on the front stack isn't up far enough forward, the wind can get under the sheet and tear the front right off.

I've seen guys use smoke tarps on the front of the load to prevent it. I like that idea except for the climbing up there.

I remember the last time I tried to explain that to somebody. It didn't end well.

I've smoked tarped it in the past, I've even tarped the entire load in the past if I was told to. I've not pulled out the tarps in a while for it.

I've heard about what you're talking about as well but I've never met anyone who has had it happen.

Twisting of the straps on this stuff really works great too as far as strap tention and flapping goes.

    On an unrelated note:

Hahah, nice. This one looks like it's planning to stay a while but I'm about to roll out and get to my delivery address for the morning. Sorry bird, lol.

And I finally invested in an extendable paint roller stick for placing or removing edge/strap protection. Works great.
