That was the first thing I was taught when I started driving. Don't look out the window, use your mirrors.

I probably cheat too much now but if it gives you a better view, why not use the tools you have?

All of these were for parking garage jobs...this outfit is doing the goethals and tappan zee bridge projects though so I may see some of that in the near future. But yeah, you are absolutely right about speed of assembly with precast.

Im always looking out the back window, thats why its there.Your dad was right, when learning to drive I was told the same thing, USE YOUR MIRRORS. Backing an end dump or a lowbed thru a const. site several times a day is a different thing. The guys with sleepers have to get good at backing blind. Back when mirrors were mounted on the doors, you could unlatch the right door & use your chicken hook to move it in or out so you could see. I just love to watch the commoners at boat ramps!

We used to go there for the entertainment value as kids. People forgetting to remove the tie down straps at the rear of the boat and watching them slam on the brakes to try and get the boat to move. Launching the boat without having a rope on the bow. Backing down the ramp with the bow rope removed and dropping a brand new boat on the ramp because the wife said something and he hit the brakes.

Oh that was some fun stuff watching all that. Even my little sister knew more than most of the people holding titles to these things.

I've only chained up once for ice in my career. The majority of the time I've chained up was for those hard pack roads when they're wet. They can be as slick as soap. Going off-road will crack wheels, break the leaf springs, and if you're not careful, twist your driveshaft like a pretzel.

Chains are for the gotta go gotta go megas. I know what a wreck can do to a driving career. I'm either dropping south and going around it or waiting for it to clear. Just my perspective. Luckily I drive for a company that doesn't mind which choice I make as long as I'm safe doing it.
