Coil racks are supposedly rated for 8000 also so yeah prolly should have been 4. Not sure how the customer would be without edge protectors either, but overall looked good!

Manager of the flatbeds. I didn't think at the time to ask why.

He's driven flatbed for 15-20 years. I'm sure there is a reason. First I've heard of it

    You disconnect and rehook.

    How ever that said,...
As much as I love and utilize my snap binders,.. I wont use them on coils. I can get my ratchets much tighter than with my snap binders.

My point is what does it matter if there is a quarter inch or one inch remaining? If you run out of ratchet does that mean you can no longer tighten the chain? No. It means you loosen the ratchet all the way back up, grab another link or two and retighten.

I used to participate in a second ammendment forum years ago and like trucking there is a ton of misinformation that gets posted as law/regulation/fact. So they had a rule that if you make a post like yours saying that there must be 1 inch remaining and that's what dot looks for, you would be required per forum rules to cite the applicable law, regulation, or court case. I really wish we had that rule sometimes. Shoot I'm sure I'm guilty of not citing stuff plenty of times.

I've read this from cover to cover multiple times and I may still have missed it but I've yet to see what you're describing. I've also not seen a rating ever for coil racks. Just suggestions from experienced drivers.

I challenge you to find the regulations to support your claims. If you do I will gladly eat crow with a smile on my face. Until then I say you are putting out misinformation.

I bet it has to do with not damaging/scratching the equipment.

That was my thought. From what I hear they're trying to monkey-proof stuff.

    I said hire better monkeys

That's what I tell forklift drivers that don't like loading conastogas cause they're afraid of damaging my tracks. I tell them I wouldn't let you crash into my rub rail either. Get better at your craft or grab a broom.

At the end of the day it's their equipment so as long as it's safe you gotta comply. There are guys that do angle pulls like that without the issues I described. Hopefully they'll comment.
