    I think with skates you aren't supposed to sharpen the blades to resemble a knife edge. :p

    I believe the idea is just to square off the bottom of the blade by putting a good corner on them, because with use they round off.

    They can be sharpened but it's more difficult to sharpen and takes a lot longer.

    That is a good question.

    I personally think trying to sharpen something like that is going to be too labor intensive to justify vs the cost of replacing it.

    You can have them sharpened, I use a round (think pencil sized) stone to do it. On the smaller serrations, I use a triangular shaped stone.

    That's what you're supposed to do with drill bits as well. Back in the day (maybe I'm too young to say that) we would take a diamond file to the edge of a freshly sharpened carbide drill before using (wether that be putting back into the CNC machine and resetting new tool length/offsets or otherwise).

    Otherwise they'll tend to chip quickly and if you don't catch it you may end up with a 'new' broken carbide drill, oops!

    @TripleSix : This:

    [IMG]

    I keep it sharp like a razor and always in my right pocket. Never know when I'm going to have to cut my seatbelt (or anything for that matter). I feel naked it I ever forget it.

    Funny story, this past Christmas, I went on a trip to NOLA with my then fiancee (now wife) and her brother/his GF and I forgot it was in my pocket when we got pulled into customs at the border and didn't declare it when they asked about sharps... long story short, they didn't find it and I can say I slipped a knife past US customs.

    Even funnier story, when we stopped at Graceland in Memphis, I still had it in my pocket, and the security guard at the gate noticed the belt clip in my pocket and asked me to drop it into my pocket. A minimum wage security guard at Elvis' house can catch it, but a US customs agent can't. Brilliant.
