So I went to Slate Falls First Nation in Ontario over the past three days. It's 176 km north of Sioux Lookout, ON. 146 km of the worst and hilliest gravel road I've ever seen. It took 4 hours to get there from the pavement (I was running around 60,000 gross with insulated HPDE pipe).

My guess as to the incline of some of those hills (not full grades, thankfully, just hills that you can see the top/bottom of) was around 15%, some probably as high as 20%. Running empty back to pavement, there were a couple that the jakes on full couldn't hold the truck back.

I lost my air bags twice (the leveller arm flipped) and I had to figure out how to fix it, since I was out of cell and satellite range. I got stuck near the top of one hill heading up, lost traction in the sand and lost my gear, had to back down and run up as fast as I could get it going (which ran completely contrary to what I had been taught about climbing grades).

Was a "great" trip. It was terrifying but incredibly rewarding. I would do it again, but my dispatcher assured me, we'll never take a load like this ever again (they were told it was going to Sioux, then halfway up, then all the way... it's as if they knew no one would take it if they didn't swindle a carrier into taking it).

Pictures (note: panoramas have a little bit of a flaw in the image that makes things look bent/flexed when they aren't; it must be my shaky hands while taking them):

I need an ultra-wide monitor for those last panoramas to use as wallpapers. They are stunning in original size.

It's a different beast running off road and in the middle of nowhere. I would personally rather do it all the time then run the highway.
