3,150 MILES, and permits would have been close to $1,200 plus all the routing around road work which would have added at least another 300+ miles to the trip.... not worth the hassle if you ask me.

We finished that job last week, now have this one, and one more, from Grand Forks,ND to Wichita Falls,Tx. Then a load of doubles from Grand Forks to Iowa somewhere, then a week or so off. After that, it's the bigger blades out of Ia to ND I think. Of course, that can all change by the time I get empty on Monday! Trying to figure out routing as we speak. Last week stuck an extra 175 miles on the trip, seeing as Ks wouldn't let us run the toll roads (we are under 14', so I dont know). Martin

I had a neighbor ask me what it'd cost to get a grain dryer hauled to Iowa from around home if he got it underheight I told him $3.75 off my odometer and an extra 300 just because it was over width, he said he would find someone CHEAPER!!!! Can you believe that? Nonsense I tell ya

Depending on how wide and how far into Iowa you are going, that might have been a little aggressive. Although, I do have a reason to go to Iowa. Unless you just don't like your neighbor.

This neighbor has issues paying his bills, and he didn't know I knew that, but I am aggressive maybe anlittle too much, if people ask me to do a "one time load" I wanna make money on it, otherwise what's the point

Not for a oversize load and permits plus the company cut. All the construction has detours so add another 25% for extra wear, tear and fuel.

They were looking for a sucker to haul it, I am sure they found one.

I completely agree. Those are usually the people that don't understand why the rate is high. As far as being aggressive, I usually am very aggressive. I do try to make sure I know what the market is doing. I would have been pushing on a lot of rates 2 months ago, but I am starting to be a little more "friendly" if it is business I want to nurture. I am a little concerned about the current state of the economy.

The current state of the economy is soft, walk carefully. Last year at this time was awesome compared to this year.
