Shipper requires 16 straps for these loads, also meets and exceeds FMCSA regulations.

The rollback guys are bad about that too, one chain on the back and the winch pulling forward.

the regs dont necessarily state you have to have two straps in the first five feet, if the articke is less than five feet and weighs over 1100 pounds you must use two straps, if over five feet but less than 10 feet two straps, and if over 10 feet long two straps plus an addtional strap for each 10 feet in length or fracttion there of, example 32 foot pipe, would take 5 straps , 2 for the first 10 feet, one for the next 10 feet, one for the next ten feet and 1 more for the remaing two feet and i would suggest spacing them out in this example one at the front another at 8 feet another at 16 feet, another at the 24 foot mark and the other at the end of the pipe, an 8 foot spacing in other words.

only one strap is required if the article is 5 foot or less and weighs less than 1100lbs. only one is required , although i would always use two on something like this front or back.

the best rule of thumb is the best strap is one thats used on the load, let em laugh when i pull in with 16 straps when they all have 8. when in doubt, drag another strap out.

and dont forget belly strapping doesnt count for figuring the proper number of straps , which the guy pictured may have thought.
