SHC,My trailer is a 51', with 41' of lower deck. The rear tires overhung 2' which essentialy makes "53", and I believe it to be legal. If it overhung say 3 ft, then I believe it would require an oversize permit. I've had a lot of loads that overhung 2ft, so I honestly can say I'd never buy a 48' step, ever.

Cluck Cluck and SHC Thank this.

Here's the mess I loaded up today. Finally got it all to settle down after stopping 4 times to add and tighten straps, and it only went 108 miles lol

Actually you would have to take one off or move the front one up onto the upper deck some.

If memory serves me correct your load can be 53' long. Anything over it needs a permit. But, it can only be one piece. In most states you can go 2' over hang in the front.

    SHC Thanks this.

Not entirely true, it can differ from state to state, but I ran some wide loads out of GA to IA with five feet off the back and only had to permit for the width, not the over hang. I have also hauled loads out of LA that had over hang of one foot in the front and rear, that had to be permitted on two lane roads but four lane highways or interstate was legal.
