I would not have trusted them boards to hold those down. Not sure how they were secured underneath but I'd be too worried about them coming apart, especially since they are a little top heavy and the boards are running the wrong way. You can even see where the bolt has split the board in the last picture. Why didn't you hook it from the tabs on the top??? I have no idea how soft or thin these are tho, just curious

Bet they'll be pissed when they find out the paint is so thin that my straps rubbed it off.
And don't forget your vice grips. You know, in case your A/C compressor tries to hurl itself into the engine fan.
-
They have a dual purpose.
(1) As lifting points when using a crane.
(2) As lashing points.
Either with a shackle through the hole or slung round the horn. -
Wow, actually have to defend AT. That is The way ABB specifies their transformers be tied down. 0% paint damage is the only thing acceptable, therefore no straps over the top, period. I have seen guys really pad the lift points and throw a chain over. To use a shackle. You'd have to pad the shank. In the past when I hauled that stuff, I've been called to pick up many returns to ABB due to damage
alex94, SHC and American-Trucker Thank this. -
We do charge them for the extra time, if he has to "tell" them how to arrange the load.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
added another chain, the front chain on #2 is pulling the piece backwards ( i couldnt run it straigh across due to the steel plates over the trailer axles, so i added another chaining pulling it forward to cancle out the other chain pulling back so now its just getting pulled down. it had moved 1/2 inch backwards didnt want it to move anymore:

If i had gone with the padded way, they wouldnt have let me leave, and if i had scratched it, it would have been on me.
The unit it bolted to the wood, and the wood is bolted to eachother. 8 bolts on each unit, and they only weigh 20,000lbs
American TruckerSHC Thanks this. -
Try not letting your chains get so twisted like the one pulling forward. It makes it easier to tighten.American-Trucker Thanks this. -
I'll try that next time. I've crossed 8 scales so far no issues. Its the only way the shipper will let you do it so other then refuseing the load, i didnt have any options. Seems stupid this crap is going to sit outside for the next 30+ years why cant i put a freakin strap over it? lol
Did you see the CAT engine pic i posted on here, what am i talking about lol here see this, 4 chains barly hooked on and thats all your allowed to do:
what i have on now is secured better then this
