Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't considered it could be a problem, though I usually hook the chain back to itself as well.
I think my reasoning at the time was that there wasn't much chain length between the lifting eye on the piece and the stake pocket to fit the binder in as well and I didn't want to go to a different pocket or spool because the angle would become very shallow and I like to keep chains short when they are at angles and low on the piece.
I'm looking at it again now and think a better way would have been the run from one eye to around a spool and across to the other side and then the same thing there. Then the chain would have been straight across the deck and lined up with the eyes.
But that would also have reduced the WLL.

I need a 3/8-G7 ratchet binder and a place where I can buy them where I can drive up in my truck because I'm not having someone ship me a couple hundred pound of steel..... -
Northern Tool had a whole wooden crate of them when I was there. Oops I drove my pickup, wouldn't wanna take the big truck in there.

I really like mine. I dont have the DR1 , I have 16 of smaller ones LDR-38 something. Mine are rated at 6,600# tho, says it right on the handle. Wonder why the new ones are rated at 5,400 ??

I mainly use my 1/2" chains and binders anyway, 3/8 every now and then, and my 5/16 (necklace chain) almost never. -
No, they have the corse threads, and they are stamped 6,600 on the handles.
Im the opposite of you, I use my 5/16 more than I do my 3/8. I try to leave the 3/8 in the rack if at all poss. But I also haul light stuff, not very heavy most of the time. If it's a large piece, like the Hemmit tanker I pulled, I only used my 3/8 on it. -
Most every thing that I drag around these days is 48,000 to 54,000lbs. So the 1/2" is a necessity.
SHC Thanks this.
