It better be gone before May! I've driven in plenty of snow/ice storms, but I don't think I've ever had this much crap on my rig the next day. Luckily, I haven't had to do anything today, so I just stayed hooked to that drop deck. But if the phone rings and I've gotta go haul sand or pipe or something, I'm gonna have fun unhooking that thing.

You are exactly correct, it's a Bombardier flying surface but without a side on picture I can't tell you for sure which airplane it's for but it's either the Challenger 300 or 350 or there's a very remote chance it could be a horizontal stabilizer for the Global 7000 or 8000 but I'm betting on the Challenger.

Come on man. Piece of Cake.

Melton has Great Dane and Utility trailers right?
Those trailers winch slide track doubles as a strap hook bar. How's come none of you guys use it? Makes tarping while using 2 in straps alot easier as well

No it wasn't a hard load but a ton of small pieces scattered through out. We were taught the "Melton Way" which means we hook straps to rub rail. I'm just doing what they want so I can keep this job.

It's like when I pass a guy with a big fancy Reitnour and 50 J hooks and he's got his chain binders hooked to the rub rail. I don't know what some places are thinking. Things are made to make our jobs easier and people still do it the hard way. Silly Heads

It looks higher then it really is.. It's at such an angle sideways it lowers the height a bunch.. Crazy load tho cause truck had to take both lanes all down the highway.

    I feel your pain brother.

I picked up a load in Houston heading up to OKC. 7 hour drive ended up taking me 1.5 days to deliver.

No place to park,.. finally found a spot in Gainsville Tx. I had been trying to park since shortly after Dallas. What a mess. Roads went to hell quick.

I woke to this while doing my PTI.

And yes,.. in second pic thats my strap all iced over in the upper right corner. LOL

I left my trailer brakes off for fear they might freeze. I had de-icer and alcohol in my lines before I left Houston,.. All my brakes froze anyway.
Imagine trying to beat on the drums with this mess. I locked the differential and slowly coaxed them free. Then just sat there and spun because trailer was frozen too. Beat on the drums and used pry bar to scrape ice out for 30 mins. Then spent 30 mins rocking back and forth until they finally free'd up.

Nothing like icicles hanging off your sun visor to feel merry while driving down the road.

Even had a chance to do a good deed.
Pulled into a rest area to use the bathroom. They had a hill leaving the place. I didnt realize until after I parked that maybe I should have parked on top and walked down. So yep,.. had to back down to bottom and get a running start to make it out. Then as I was making my way up a Prime driver who had spent the night there was near the top waved me down. I was #### I dont want to stop now.

He was in too much ice to move the truck and at such an angle that he couldnt back down the hill to get a running start as there was another truck parked right below him. He was a lease driver and would have had to pay a princely sum to get a tow truck out there in that weather. I know,.. I used to drive class 8 tow truck. I could almost take the whole summer off with the money I made in the winter time when I was towing.

I layed out 6 chains and hooked to the back of my trailer. I barely got myself rolling on the ice and I was 400lbs over gross. With a tug and a yank I got him to the top. He wanted to pay me but I declined. I said just return the favor to someone else who you can help. Hopefully I get enough Karma points to keep me out of trouble or get help when I need it.

It's a delicate balance between height and width on wings. Here's one of my wing loads, it's 1/2 of the wing because a complete wingset for this particular aircraft would be over 110' long. But the same principal, we tip them up to the lowest maximum allowed height in the states we cross then permit the width.
