Just keep in mind, the most basic of DOT physicals will probably want you to attempt to bend over, keep your knees locked, and try and touch your toes, and return to an upright position. Also, be aware a few carriers have a rather extensive "physical agilities" test that is a part of the pre-hire process and separate from the mandated DOT physical.
Also, even a handful of outfits like some garbage and refuse disposal outfits incorporate a spinal X-ray and requires a doctor sign off as part of the pre-hire process, and that there are no obvious "issues" found in the examination of the spinal X-rays by an MD -

I actually was accepted into the US Border Patrol in 2008, but before I could go,to NM for training, my mom died, and I didn't think I could get through the program after that...Only like 1 in 5 made it...my mind was not in the right place.
I know I'll figure something out. Thanks to everyone for their insight about this! I appreciate it. My surgeon is wonderful woman, a miracle worker, but she has no idea how the real, world works lol...Thull Thanks this. -

My L3-L4 are fused. Posture is important, and a pillow behind my lower back helps. I've been able to do this 14 years without too many problems. You should look for companies that offer "no touch freight" and don't even think of beverage or foodservice. But even when it's not a "physical" job, it still affects you physically.
I disagree with whoever said driving truck was easier than driving a car long distances. To me, the bumps are magnified in a truck compared to a car, despite having air ride seats and suspensions. Bridge joints I'd never notice in my car can be mildly punishing in a truck. And you may have to endure that steady punishment for 11 hours.
The only way to know if you can handle it is if you go for it. Given your level of student debt, a few thousand more for truck driving school won't bury you any further than you already are. Keep us posted.Jmyerian Thanks this. -
