I had a rate conformation to haul a load for C.H.Robinson once. I got to the customer and waited hours and they said the load was canceled. I told C.H. and they said oh well. I said I wanted my $250. They said we don't pay that. I called the customer and they said they always pay C.H. $250. I said they weren't paying it to me and I was sending the company the bill. CH said they were looking into it. Ya right.
After a month I got nothing. I sent a bill to the customer. A few days later I got a call from them saying what the heck was this. I refreshed their memory. I was now on the phone with the company's owner. He said I would have to take it up with CH. I said fine and that I was a local resident in town and will file a claim at court this morning against you.
Within the hour I got a call from CH. They were BS and yelling. I pretty much said ## and I wanted the check overnight or I was filing the next afternoon. I got the check. I then got a call from the owner of the company I was to haul for. We had a long conversation about how it all works now that he and I were calm and conflict resolved.
He told me sometimes a load doesn't get picked up for over a week. I asked him about a load he had right now. He told me and I looked it up on ITS. He was paying $4,500. The load was listed at $1,100.
I told him to get an ITS account since he had his own authority to haul within in the state. I told him if you pay $2.00 per mile for long runs the load will be taken in minutes. I told him to calculate the miles, add 10% and tell the broker you have this much into the load and you want it listed at this price.
Since then, I haul for them directly at a decent rate whenever I'm in town.
C.H. still calls me when me truck is posted!!!platinum, Wings2Wheels, AfterShock and 2 others Thank this. -
By the way. I tell every customer to do this that is willing to listen about how the game is played and why their load sits on the dock.

That's highway robbery!

I know. Most customers are just not aware of how much they should pay. Most just pass it on to the end customer.
The brokers hold onto a load as long as possible and for as cheap as possible until the customer complains. Then they either tell the customer it needs more money to move it or they dip into their HUGE profits!!
I try and tell as many customers as possible how it works and tell them to tell the brokers how much to list it for and what the brokers commission should be. If they don't like it, call around, you will find a broker real fast willing to make a decent pay for a quick load. -
You tell'em brother... It's wrong how drivers get the short end of the deal.
