    No need to appoligize.

You are learning, that this is a huge complex industry that most never see beyond driving. There is a hell of a lot to learn just on job hunting.

So you remember what your first days in the military were like?

I have had people who wasted my time by just hearing the words and didn't think what was the message. Never act on suggestions or solutions.

I was brought up to learn from others' mistakes, so I am harsh about transferring skills and knowledge, I do not sugarcoat much.

Well I was just asking for research tips. LOL
But Chinatown has done amazing work already. I already have some hooks in the water too, I was looking for ways to better investigate those companies.

    But answer your post.

Freight types aren't that important as long as the compensation makes it worth it. For example I've talked with some companies that pay the same for taped flatbed or even hazmat loads as pulling groceries.

Hometime. I prefer and was doing this at me last company, I would get 8 days at home and I would give 22 days under load. I have also considered if I could it like a deployment. Go out for 3 to even 6 months and take 3-6 weeks off. Pipe dream? yes! But it would allow me to be able to have time to assist my parents (80+ yo) with the cattle farm.

CONUS is fine, I found I prefer big runs, but hopscotching across the CONUS is fine too. This website has reinforced my unease of places like Chicago, Philly, the North East and some other big cities. I've pulled ports of LA to Maimi and hate both cities. But if I can get my load off and not have to stay in big cities town waiting for aload I'm can deal.

I just have a CDL A and its so old I can run manual transmission. I don't have hazmat yet and so far I haven't found any companies that make the juice work the squeeze. But I am not against it.
I am about to pull the trigger on doublesttriples/tanks as I am not getting much love in the RGN arena.

Oh I have already experienced the lack of discipline from drivers, shippers, recievers, my own company and other. LOL
And yes it clashed my gears. But their not my troops so not my responsibility.

If I was instantly a CEO I would only hire hand selected Vets. Most truly know the meaning of perseverance in the face of adversity. But instead of shoulder salad they would get the real benefit of their sacrifice. Respect, honor and as much financial and fringe benefits the company could support.

I agree it's immensely complex and worlds apart from the complexity of an operating in a 600 man Construction Battalion. So far, the similarities are limited to equipment maintenance. I thought I was doing well keeping an eye on the civilian industry, I was not and I don't think now, that I actually could have. The bright spot is, I can identify what is I don't know and that I need to know it. Closing the loop on finding answers is my current Challege.

In the service its easy. Regs, Guidance, OI's, Doctrine etc. are literally in your face all day. If the question hasn't been answered, you go to the Intel wieners (common in theater, rare in garrison) or Higher HQ (rare in general) for guidance. So far out here in the civilian realm, not so much.

I can only imagine the horror of modern civilian personnel actions from an owners/manager POV. It's also part of the reason I am pushing into this line of work and not looking for what some would call "bigger things". By the time I retired almost all my time was dealing with personnel and administration. I'll be honest, I have never developed the skills/tact necessary for people's personal problems. I am just not warm and fuzzy, I guess. It really is best that I now interact with a minimum amount of people. Sad but true.

Your last sentence brings to mind a conversation between me and one of the best mentors/leaders I ever had. This man had no filter and no soft edges. He told a group of us young Diggie Dirts right after they started allowing women into the Seabees, "If I have to hold your hand, powder your ### and speak sweetly in your ear, you are taking me away from my real mission, which is keeping you alive and keeping HHQ from pissing in your mess kit. So, dry your eyes, find some grit and get out there and make me some ####### money!" I'm glad that you and I can see eye to eye.

Follow-up: most opportunities that require a doubles/triples endorsement will also require a hazmat endorsement, as well.

And most of the better-paying tank gigs also require a hazmat.

But of course....it's your career, your choice. :dontknow:

Most tanker haulers wish they got into pulling tankers sooner. I did. Customers treated you better, trailers are easier to back, it's more professional because the mistakes are more dangerous/expensive. No screaming refrigeration unit 2 feet from your head when you sleep, less rejected freight than "reefer".

I have discovered another methodology after I have received unsolicited contact from some folks offering jobs.

If any company is not willing to give their company name, along with their DOT# they go right to the trash. I had 3 reach out via text (2) & email (1) since Friday and they all wanted to get me on the phone but refused to provide company name &DOT#.

Now I have to find out where my info got sold from....Pulse/TenStreet, maybe Ziprecruiter?
