Does your company want all endorsements? My plan is next 2 weeks to head down and get my doubles/triple/tanks. Then do the hazmat later since it more involved.
I'm leary of union, I had a less the favorable experience with a teamsters rep that came to a job fair at my base before I retired. The short story was he wouldn't/couldn't answer my questions. Told me to show up at a local union hall with check for $80 or so, then I would have all question answered. Needless to say I discounted everything he said after that.
Potential employer research best practices?

@Ridgeline
SAIA has been on my radar. I pulled a few loads to/from their LA terminal up to SLC. A couple were live loads and I have never seen warehousers move so fast. No exaggeration, there were at least 3 forklifts running top speed around that dock loading my trailer. Well, all the forklifts were running full speed on that dock. From the time I bumped dock to the time I pulled away was about 30-45 minutes. I did lose sense of time watching the controlled chaos. But a soon as one forklift backed out of my trail another zoomed in. It was impressive.Numb Thanks this. -

If you are within 100 miles of Salt Lake City -- you would do well to consider/apply with DoT Transportation (as suggested earlier):
Partners & Military | Drive For DTI | Dot Transportation, Inc.
They are easily one of the best non-private reefer fleets to join.
This carrier can be picky -- but your military experience/track record should give you a real edge against most of the competition.

Don't expect to park a truck at the SLC area truck stops if you live in SLC. Park at the company terminal or pay for parking at a private yard or another trucking company's yard.

I was offered and accepted a position today running dump trucks hauling aggregates/soils. I have to do a minimum of 90 days pulling class A before they will review my performance to move me up to doubles/triples. On boarding begins tomorrow. I want to thank all who provided advice and answered my silly questions.

I have. My SIL's, best friends husband, (wacky, I know) is a driver there. She put us in contact a while back and I finally broke through after applying a couple of times. It seems it's hard to get in to dump trucks around here, even though they are always hiring. I've applied at quite few companies since Covid let up. I've only received 3 call backs. 1 only wanted to hire if I had "super 16" experience, I don't. To me an end dump, straight truck is all the same regardless of the number of drop axles a truck has. Another required frameless experience. Completely understandable, but I don't have that. And now this company.
